We took a different approach to creating a storyboard.
This is because, although our music video follows a story, it does not
follow a specific order. For example, although the argument would come
later, it could also come earlier or at the start. We found that many
music videos mix up there shots like this.
Therefore, we decided to draw each scene we wanted to use and each idea
on our storyboard. We then cut them out and lined them up.
After, we played the song, and referred back to the lyrics in order to
decide where we think each shot/scene should go in relation to the
others.
We understand that this could change, however for now it gives us an idea.
Our names are Sophie Compton and Alice Freeman-King and we are currently studying A-Level Media Studies at Aldenham School.
As part of our coursework this year, we are
creating and producing a music video to a song of our choice. We have chosenLet it go by James Bay as the song we would like to create a music
video for, and we are writing this letter to seek your permission to do so.
Please note, this video will be used only
for my coursework and will not be distributed or marketed in any form.We would greatly appreciate your permission to
use this song.
As the genre of our song is blues rock, we have taken time to research different Fonts, Colour schemes, photos and layout uses within this genre.
We would like to use a similar to this because we like the simplicity and it is very easy and clear to read.
We believe a dark colour scheme is more affective than a brighter one as it more appropriate to the songs on the album and this allows it to touch the audience more powerfully. We also like the way the red lips stand out on a black and white shot, therefore we would like to use this in our digipack.
As our ideas are based around a argument within a relationship, we feel the front of the digipack should include a picture of the couple shouting as it shows the intense emotion that the audience can expect within the song.
For the layout of the digipack, we would like the writing of the artist and the albums name to go in the middle of the front cover. We believe this will make the name of the artist stand out.
We really like the idea of a piece of furniture behind text, therefore we are going to use this idea but however change it slightly to the back of a piano to show where the artist works and gets his inspiration from.
We decided to get some feedback from our audience. We asked 100 students
from year 13 and 100 students from year 10. We found that the students
from year13 are a more appropriate age/target audience for our music
video as there answers are more relevant to our ideas for our 'let it
go' music video.
This research allowed us to understand our target audience in order to
see what we need to do to meet their expectation of a music video for
this kind of song as well as satisfy them.
The front cover features only the main artist which allows for her image to be conveyed to the audience. She is looking away for the audience and to the ceiling this maybe conveys her to be a dreaming towards being a average girl rather an intense artist. The casual and loose text also conveys her quirky songs and image whilst the colour white helps keep it simple. The background is the simple colour grey, which allows the focus to be solely on the artist.
Back
The artist is feathered again on the back on the cover, her pose is that which catches the audiences eyes as she is showing sex appeal and looking directly at the camera. The grey background is also followed through to the back of the digipack which makes it flow nicely. The colour theme of the text is pink and black, making the text simple and easy to read. The positioning of the text fits very nicely and doesnt take any attention off the picture.
Heavy Rock
Front
The digipack uses a black background, a dark colour that bears sinister
connotations that is heavily related with rock music. This album cover featuring only the logo of the band, which helps promote the artists as a brand. This album cover could be seen as

offensive/controversial as album covers of this genre have similar features for example, Guns, fire and skulls.
The back of the digipack uses the colours Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with war, danger, strength and power and Black is associated with death, evil, and
mystery. The Picture of the band at the bottom of the digipack symbolises togetherness of the group in order to satisfy the audience.
Blues Rock
Front
Back
The colours used in the front cover are Light blue which is associated with health, healing,
tranquility, understanding, and softness and Black is associated with power, elegance, and
mystery. These colours work well together as they provide a relaxed environment and tone.
This cover contrasts with the artists songs as the songs because we feel that the cover is very cold however his songs are of a warm nature.
We find the white writing on the black background very effective as it makes the cover look powerful. The picture of the artist on his own shows him as a confident, sophisticated, musical and lyrical man.
